Since appropriate animal research facility is critical to accomplish any animal research, a standard site, supplied with modern equipments, has been designed for maintenance and care of some needed laboratory animals. In this regard, the most important activities perform to respect the required standards are as follows: - Doing daily animal examination by experts and quarantine those suspected to disorders or diseases in order to do veterinarian inspection
- Doing diagnostic tests and animal necropsy in order to recognize animals with contagious or incurable diseases and subsequently eliminate them
- Having the advantage of a specialized pharmacy and prescribing the medication by a veterinarian
- Using of periodic disinfectants to remove fungal, parasitical, bacterial and viral infections
- Controlling quality of food, potable water and bedding according to primary hygienic principles
The most important activities performed in the Center for Laboratory Animals, as a supportive unit, are: - Doing maintenance and husbandry of different laboratory animals (different species of laboratory mouse, rat and rabbit) according to the need of research centers
- Collecting miscellaneous biologic samples from laboratory animals (blood, serum, plasma and so on) and different tissue biopsies (brain. Heart, kidney, thymus, spleen and so on)
- Doing miscellaneous macroscopic and microscopic surgeries on laboratory animals (ovariohystrectomy, orchidectomy, vasectomy, tissue transplantation, embryo transfer and so on)
- Holding workshops to train ethics and principles of working with laboratory animals to students and personnel of ARI and other research centers
